It seems like I haven't had a day off in 3 months. I've been working alot recently and really haven't had time to do anything besides work, sleep, eat occasionally, play piano occasionally and pay rent monthly. Either way, on my days off ever since I have moved out, I really have enjoyed going to the bakery on the corner and getting breakfast or some kind of likening to breakfast. The place I go is quaint, quiet, and quite the nice place to sit and relax (See what I did there?) and almost welcomes or requires contemplation, writing, good conversations and great coffee. Today was no exception. I walked in the door and right away I was greeted by the girl at the front desk, ordered my breakfast and coffee and took a seat while she was making it. Soon after, when I was done, I went up to give my plate to her. At this point we start to engage in conversation. The conversation was surface level at best so we talked about what I do, what she does and how she didn't make anything that I just ate. At that point, another customer comes in and I go back to my seat thinking that the conversation was done for good but also its good to understand that I was neither sad nor glad that the conversation was over. I did not find this girl attractive so I wasn't going to spend my day off trying to hit on her- that's for tomorrow at the wedding so I go back to my seat and surf the web or whatever and drink my coffee. After a while, she says to me "So what are you doing on your day off?" Whoa. Hold on now lady. I gave you my plate and I paid for my meal- what more do you want from me? Her initiating the conversation was definitely a set back for me and I don't think I was prepared for it. Almost, in a more humorous scene, I really wanted to ask "Are you talking to me?" Even though there was literally no one else in the place but, since I like to think I'm a nice person, we talk more and at this point, I can tell that she's kind of hitting on me- well....at least I think she was but- lets first assess this. As I have said before, I understand that the world does not revolve around me. I know that I'm not the most attractive guy in the world but nice enough to engage in conversation with complete strangers even if they aren't that attractive either. I guess my problem here was really the notion that she thought I was her age. She was without a doubt pushing 30 and I could tell that she thought I was the same. This is probably one of the worst things about looking older than you are- either you are hit on my girls that are much older than you, or you are cast to the side because they think you are in your late 20's and hitting on a 19 year old would be creepy. The other day in school, the same thing happened to me. I started talking to this very attractive girl who was in my class and I figured she was around my age. It turned out that she had 3 kids and has been married once before. We talk for a while and when she asks my age and I tell her that I'm 21, I see her face go white. She was definitely hitting on me. I can tell this because for the rest of the class, she doesn't even talk to me. But, even though this is one of the worst parts of being 21, I don't even think that's the worst part of this. I think the worst part is being called a Millennial. I guess every group of birth dates has a specific meaning and things that they can and can't do, but recently, I haven't heard anything good about Millennials, Once, I had a job that my boss was reluctant to give me a raise or a promotion because quote "I'm a Millennial so I'm not reliable, I'm untrustworthy and I change jobs frequently"Even though I have a lot of problems with what he said and agree that stagnation in a job is almost detrimental to a good career, I don't think it's fair to put me in a group and classify me with people when you don't even know me. I'm tired of people looking down on me because of my age. They look at my birth date and say, I'm not going to listen to you because some people who are in your age group don't go to work just because they don't want to and never stay true to what they say. I like to think that I'm an exception to this rule. I have proven myself to be able to keep a job, rise in a job, and set my mind on something and do it so for this reason, I call on all of the stereotypical Millennials. This is a call to action my friends. Stop being a Millennial. I know you cant change your age so I won't require that of you. What I will ask is that you stop making the notion of being 20 being a curse. I'm tired of people saying "Your a Millennial so you do this, or think that way" I'm not pretending that this is something that can't be changed like its my allotment in life. No. I refuse to sit in the dark and have others judge me because of the actions of other people who aren't me. Change your ways. I'm ready for a change. Get a job. Keep a job. Find something you love and put all of your effort into it. Work during the day, but at night, do what ever you want, your not a kid anymore so stop acting like one. Stop not going to work just because you don't want to. I'm ready for a change so please help me with this one guys. You owe it to your selves to make our generation a better one.

Isn’t it interesting how perceptions change once you are
